Jaipur Heritage Tours-The Pink City

Jaipur is a tourist's delight. The city incurred its name, its foundations and its careful planning, to the great warrior - astronomer Maharaja Jai Singh II. Jaipur is known as Pink City as it was painted pink in honor of the visit of the Prince of Wales in 1876. It is an extremely colorful city, and in the evening light, the pink and the orange buildings exude a magical glow, which is complemented by the vibrantly attired Rajasthanis. Camel drawn carts are a passing street scene in Jaipur.

A part from the beautifully laid out gardens and parks, attractive monuments and marvelous heritage hotels, Jaipur's colorful bazaars (market) delights the tourist with its timeless beauty. Jaipur is famous for its semi- precious stones & elephant ride at 15th Century Amer fort Palace. Another interesting place to visit is the centuries-old world's largest sun dial at Jantar Mantar.

The city also offers an endless variety of crafts and paintings. Few of the prime attractions of Jaipur are various forts and palaces such as Amer Palace; City Palace, the imposing gateway of the City Palace is guarded by stone elephants; Hawa Mahal, a multi-layered palace, with a profusion of windows and stone screens; Jai Garh; Jal Mahal, Jaipur's lake palace, surrounded with water and many others.

Sightseeing at Jaipur:

The City Palce is an imposing blend of traditional Rajasthani and Mughal art and architecture. The City Palace complex houses several palatial structures. The first building in it is Mubarak Mahal, built by Kaharaja Madho Singh. It has a beautifully carved marble gate with heavy brass doors on either side of this gate. Beyond this gate lies the Diwan -e-Khas, or the "Hall of Private Audience".

Across a paved square lies the Diwan-e-Aam, or the "Hall of Public Audience". To the north-west is the stately and graceful seven storeyed Chandra Mahal, the residence of the ex-ruler. Each storey has a distinctive name and is a place of sheer beauty and luxury. Paintings, floral decorations, mirror walls and ceilings in the traditional style adorn the palace.

The uppermost storey is called the Mukut Mahal. Opposite the chandra Mahal lies the Baldal Mahal. The Govind Devji temple stands inthe middle of the Chandra Mahal and Badal Mahal.

A delightful system of fountains is placed in the middle of the paved path between the Chandra Mahal and the Badal Mahal. The palace has extensive and sprawling gardens
